The Toby Charles Quartet provides a king-sized sound that exudes a startling energy. Toby Charles Hounsham, an extremely talented organist, draws old school riffs ala Jimmy Smith and Booker T. James ‘Smokestack’ Fenn on guitar accompanies the organ with imaginative chords and creates exciting solos from his versatile musical repertoire. James T Davis on drums provides groove-infused shuffles that are driving yet refined. Sam Sharawi on bass conjures such mastery of his instrument that involuntary toe tapping in the audience has been known to occur.
